GOV. COX NAMES BRIAN REDD AS THE NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONSSALT LAKE CITY (May 5, 2023) – Utah Governor Spencer Cox has announced the appointment of Brian Redd as the new executive director of the Utah Department of Corrections, pending approval by the Utah Senate. Redd will bring his extensive experience in management, logistics, security, and law enforcement to lead the state's correctional system. "Brian brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this critical position," said Gov. Cox. "We're thrilled that he's willing to re-enter public service and confident that he will provide strong vision and leadership to the Utah Department of Corrections." Redd is a seasoned professional with a long record of public service in Utah. He most recently served as vice president and manager in the Compliance Division of Goldman Sachs, where he oversaw the PWM U.S. Surveillance Team and was involved with the Firmwide Insider Threat Team. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, he spent 21 years with the Utah Department of Public Safety, rising through the ranks from Trooper to Agent, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and Chief Special Agent. During his tenure, Redd served as director of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and the Statewide Information and Analysis Center (SIAC). In addition to his distinguished career in law enforcement, Redd has served on numerous boards and committees, including Volunteers of America Utah, Solutions Utah, International Association of Chiefs of Police Committee on Terrorism, Utah Alcoholic Beverage Control Advisory Board, Utah Refugee Board of Advisors, Utah Crime Victims Council, and others. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and an Executive MPA from Brigham Young University. If confirmed by the Utah Senate, Redd will succeed former executive director Mike Haddon, who retired earlier this year.
