Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that Daniel F. Martuscello III has taken on the role of overseeing the operational aspects of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, effective June 9, 2023. Acting Commissioner Martuscello brings extensive experience to his new position, having started his career as a Correction Officer with the then New York State Department of Correctional Services in May 1997.

Throughout his career, Acting Commissioner Martuscello has held various positions within the Bureau of Personnel, including Director of Human Resources. His dedication and commitment led to his appointment as Deputy Commissioner for Administrative Services in August 2012, where he managed the agency's $3.2 billion budget. In November 2017, he was appointed Executive Deputy Commissioner for the Agency, overseeing the entire Executive Team and serving as the Commissioner's principal advisor on labor relations, intergovernmental matters, facility operations, and community issues.

Acting Commissioner Martuscello holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology, specializing in Criminology, from SUNY Cortland. He is actively involved in several organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors for the SUNY Cortland Alumni Association, New York State Minorities in Criminal Justice, and the New York Corrections and Youth Services Association.
