After solving their correctional officer staffing crisis, the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) found themselves with nearly 300 officers needing to be POST certified. To solve this issue, IDOC acquired a 33,000 square foot building to open their first ever Training & Development Center, which allowed them to bring all of their training, including all law enforcement certifications, in-house. They had just over 2 months to renovate the space, and 36 residents from the Treasure Valley Community Reentry Center and Nampa Reentry Center volunteered to help! Thanks to the residents' hard work and attention to detail, IDOC held their first academy as scheduled in January 2024.  After a successful first academy, the resident workers were invited back to the training center for dinner so they could see the completed space and be thanked personally for their contribution.
